Everybody has a background.As JP's co-star in U-turn J.Lopez says"there's always pain and something you desire".His pain (and mine,too) is the tragic death of his beloved brother and our desire is Joaquin himself. Here are the things you just HAVE to know about him: 
*Although he was born with the enough exotic by itself name JOAQUIN,as a kid he decided to change his "title"with a more earth one.He chose Leaf, probably to match better with his siblings River, Rain, Liberty and Summer.He had his first professional appeareance in Seven Brides for Seven Brothers('82).After a few years, in the early 90s he took back his original name
*Actually his surname shouldn't be Phoenix. His father was born John Bottom, but later changed the indication of not bad body parts with the mistycal PHOENIX...(Leaf Bottom, well that's my ideal for teenage heart throb...LOL)
*Joaq had an uneasy upbringing. He spent a few years of poverty, but he's got only wonderful memories from that period.That's because the whole Phoenix kin is kinda tree-hug family. Often called "hippies" they were travelling around the US and out of the American border. That's why J was born in Puerto Rico, his brother River in Oregon(at 12:03pm),etc.
*Joaq made a few worthy roles, as the one in Parenthood(Ron Haward),but after that started to receive "rather silly proposals" and made a self imposed 6 year hiatus, during which he lost his apathy (and decided to start acting again)and his...virginity...
*On the tragical night of 30th October 1993 Joaq,River,his girlfriend Samantha Mathis and some friends went out to have some fun. Joaq alleged later that all Rio wanted to do was to play some new songs on his guitar and have a nice time. Sadly the night ended horribly-River was taken to the hospital after Joaq made his famous 911 call "I think he's taken valium or something...".Joaquin's only brother was pronounced dead 1:51am, at Cedars-Sinai hospital on the morning of 31st October, just a few days after a sweet event like Joaquin's 19th birthday.
*River's death is an unbearable topic for JP who says that if he found the man who sneaked and took a photo of dead Rio, he'd "probably end up in prison, 'cause I'd beat the living s**t out of him"
*His longest relationship was with the talented brunette Liv Tyler(Armageddon) who helped him to get over his pain after the horrible tragedy in Viper's Room on 30th October '1993
